Father David

The initial journey

Father David Ghobrial, formerly known as Ghobrial Kamel, arrived in Australia in 1988, where his profound spiritual journey began. In the same year, he dedicated himself to serving at St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church in Kensingon as a Sunday school servant. His commitment to both spiritual and academic pursuits led him to achieve a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and later obtain a Graduate Diploma in Education.
Initially, Father David engaged in laboratory work, utilizing his scientific background. however, driven by a deeper calling, he transitioned into education. in 2018, he reached another milestone by completing a Masters of Theology, further enriching his knowledge and understanding.
Father David’s linguistic proficiency extends Across Arabic, Coptic and English, enabling him to connect with diverse communities.

Priesthood

His journey in ministry began when he was ordained as a consecrated full deacon in 2010. Involved with spreading the Coptic faith, he embarked on missionary endeavors in Fiji, Pakistan, and Tasmania. This dedication to sharing his faith led to his ordination as a priest in Febuary 2015. He initially served as a priest in Tasmania, contributing to the spiritual life of St. Demiana & St. Abraam Coptic Orthodox Church in Launceston and then later at St. Mary’s Coptic Church in Hobart.
After two years in Perth at St. Mary & Archangel Michael Coptic Church, Father David returned to continue his general ministry in 2018, and eventually taking role of the priest of St. Philopater. Since then, he has been a guiding force, providing spiritual and social leadership to every member of the church community.

The current holder of this position is Pope Tawadros II, who was selected as the 118th pope on November 18, 2012.
